How to give a user specific roles in SQL server 2008

This tip is about assigning specific user some specific roles like they can only see the tables, perform some operation on specific tables, stored procedure execution permission and all that.

We will accomplish this through user interface without using any command.

STEP 1: Open SSMS(SQL Server management studio) and right click on the ┬ádatabase server and select “Properties” as shown on the below figure.

STEP1- Select properties

STEP 2: Now click on the “Permissions” menu and you will be able to see all the users on “Login or roles” window. Select any user and a window with all the permissions will appear below that window. You can choose any option (one or more) depending on your requirement from the check boxes. Below is the figure.

STEP2-Grant Permission

In the next tip we will explore how to do the above things with help of commands.
